Why I’m running for Trustee
I am honored to be running for the Board of Trustees of Medical Society of the State of New York (MSSNY), because our organization faces significant sustainability and growth challenges in the next decade, and I believe I have exceptional medical, business administrative, and leadership skills to offer the Society for meeting those challenges.
I am endorsed by both the MSSNY Nominating Committee and the Fifth District Branch. If elected, I will be the first MSSNY Trustee from the IMG section.
I am the son of immigrant parents from India. My father was a physician, and actively involved in MSSNY as the past president of the Oneida county medical society. My parents taught me the value of hard work, empathy, ethics, and education. Despite the challenges faced by first generation Americans, I succeeded in accomplishing my dream of becoming a physician, having graduated from the King Edward Medical University. I completed my residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the Northshore University/LIJ Medical Center where I served as chief resident. This was followed by a Fellowship in Interventional Pain Management at the Spinal & Skeletal Pain Institute in New York. I am triple board certified in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, Pain Medicine, and Interventional Pain Management. I have served as Chairman of the Department of PM&R at Mohawk Valley Health Systems for over ten years and am the Past President of the New York State Society of Interventional Pain Physicians.
I am a lifelong resident of Central New York, where I practice medicine and surgery. I have served as medical director of Inpatient rehabilitation at three institutions including Rome memorial hospital, Sitrin medical rehabilitation center, and Faxton-St Lukes Healthcare. I have worked actively with the New York State Department of Health and founded three New York State licensed/accredited ambulatory surgical centers and a New York State licensed high complexity clinical laboratory. These endeavors have provided me with vast business and healthcare experience both on NY state and federal regulatory levels. I invented the “Halo procedure®” to treat Chronic Migraine Headaches and the “Biodisc®” procedure for regenerative treatment of spinal disc disease. I have authored over ten chapters in medical textbooks. I cofounded Cyvolve, providing medical device and healthcare cybersecurity using patented multikey data encryption. I have been actively involved as a primary investigator in FDA clinical research which is regularly published and presented at international conferences and published in leading medical journals. I am involved in medical education, teaching medical students and residents, and have served as a fellowship director for interventional pain management for over 20 years.
Within the gambit of organized medicine, I have been actively involved at MSSNY since my days as a resident at Long Island Jewish Medical center. I have been a constant member of MSSNY through the RFS and YPS sections, the IMG Section, and as a delegate from Oneida county. I have regularly attended the MSSNY house of delegates since the 1990s. I am currently President of the 5thDistrict Caucus and have served as President of the Oneida County Medical Society. I have also served as Chair of an HOD Reference Committee, been a member of various other MSSNY Committees including the workers compensation committee, and presently serve as a MSSNY Councilor. I have served on the Board of Directors of the Medical Liability Mutual Insurance company (MLMIC) before its acquisition by Berkshire Hathaway. I also currently serve as the delegate from my specialty society, the North American Neuromodulation Society (NANS), to the AMA house of delegates.
I started my career with MSSNY in the RFS and YPS and am a product of MSSNY from the ground up over the past 25 years. My career has been blessed with exceptional opportunities in healthcare innovation and leadership. At a time when MSSNY faces its most crucial strategic planning, sustainability, and growth challenges, I believe the skillset, experience, and innovative leadership assets that I bring to the society qualify me for the challenges and changes needed to succeed in forging a NEW and prosperous future for the Society. I pledge to commit myself to unselfishly work with everyone on the board of trustees for the benefit of our members, being a voice and advocate for the unheard.
I humbly ask for your vote for Trustee of the Medical Society of the State of New York.
